White or red light yellow crystalline powder. Melting point 223 ℃, soluble in ethanol, ether, and glacial acetic acid, purple in dilute alkali, slightly soluble in water, difficult to dissolve in benzene. Acid base indicator, color changing range pH8.2 (colorless) -9.8 (red).
